Behind the wheel

Pampelonne Beach. The coast road to Pampelonne gets busy from midday through late afternoon, and beach club valets are used to high-end convertibles. A soft-top makes sense here for the short, open-air run down from the village.

Ramatuelle and Cap Taillat. The road toward Ramatuelle narrows and climbs through vineyards before reaching the trailhead for Cap Taillat. Parking near the cape is limited, so an early departure keeps the drive relaxed and leaves easy space for the car.

Gassin. Perched above the gulf, Gassin rewards a slower pace: tight lanes, restaurant terraces and views back toward Saint-Tropez. A compact or mid-size sports car handles the village streets more comfortably than a wide SUV.

Port Grimaud. The drive around the Gulf of Saint-Tropez to Port Grimaud takes you past marinas and quiet lagoon-side streets. It's a good half-day loop, with canal-front parking near the entrance to the old town.

Place des Lices and the village centre. Evenings in the centre revolve around Place des Lices, its cafés and the boutiques nearby. Street parking is scarce after dark, so many guests prefer to arrive early or let valet service at a hotel handle the car for the night.
